What Type Of System Do You Need?  Continued

Back then I had a definite need for an effective sound-only instrument and I was unhappy with what was available. So I enlisted the help of a good friend in an effort to create sessions we could prove were entraining for lengthy periods of time. The following is a summation of what happened:

In the mid-90’s I was working at a mental health clinic, performing eeg / neurofeedback sessions. It was decided that we would incorporate pulsed audio frequency stimulation into the neurofeedback training program. At that time, unfortunately, there was not a lot available in terms of pulsed audio stimulation (sine wave, binaural beats, the choices were few). When pulsed audio frequencies are combined with pulsed light, you have two avenues for achieving brainwave entrainment. But with audio alone, entrainment is harder to maintain. So I looked for alternatives and sought the assistance of Christopher Oliver (who today is recognized as one of the leaders, if not the leader, in light and sound and sound-only session design).

We found by combining two completely independent binaural beat generators, creating four separate and distinct channels of audio frequency, that the mind would become entrained, and remain entrained, for prolonged periods of time. With those four separate channels of frequencies being generated simultaneously, the utilization of more complex and dynamic frequency variations for session design would be possible, when compared to previous sound-only machines utilizing only one single or binaural beat generator. Dual independent binaural beats (DBB) not only create a specific, targeted frequency, but also generate several offset frequencies. Session designs resemble mathematical equations. An awareness of all the offset frequencies, as well as the targeted frequency, must be known to the session designer. If all four channels of frequencies are arranged correctly, the result is a very powerful and effective method for inducing brainwave entrainment. But if a DBB session designer is not aware of all the offsets, the result is a mishmash of non-entraining frequencies. Thankfully, Christopher has always been a wiz at math.
