Lightframes & Headphones: What To Look For continued
So Chris Williams created lightframe polarity adapters. They are a twelve inch cord that quickly connects between your lightframe plug and light and sound unit’s “light in” port. These adapters allow you to use any CP lightframes with any CG 6 volt light and sound unit or CG lightframes on 6 volt units that are CP polarity (most light and sound instruments are 6 volt systems). This saved my customers the hassle of having to own duplicate lightframes of the same color, just because the polarities they ran on were opposite. No session light distortion or intensity degradation occurs from using them, and they are a cost-effective solution to an annoying problem.
Here is a list of popular light and sound instruments that are Common Ground (CG): Mind-Gear (PR2x) and InnerQuest IQ I, II, III and Jr. Common Power (CP) systems include: MindAlive (Paradise models), InnerQuest (Tutor and 9110) and Zygon (MindQuest). So if you have a MindGear lightframe and want to use it with a MindAlive unit, the only thing required is a CG lightframe to CP unit polarity adapter.
Headphones are a different story. Lately it has been getting better. But still, if you buy an inexpensive system, you will receive inexpensive headphones (not flimsy, just not high quality). Because the sound quality is so important to brain entrainment, you would think the manufacturers would put more effort into including a quality set of headphones into their product. Many don’t. You suffer. Even purchasing an expensive system does not guarantee that you will receive a high quality, long-lasting set. But as I mentioned, it is getting better. Still, it drives me nuts when I’m doing a session or assisting someone else and crackles happen. Ruins the whole effect! So here is something to keep in mind. Keep the headphones that come with your system as a backup. Watch for sales at your neighborhood Audio/Video Dealer and purchase headphones that you really like. Go for comfort and how they block outside noise.
The most important factor to consider when purchasing a light and sound or sound only unit is: Do you understand how to use it? If you do not know how to use your unit, all it will do is collect dust.
You must also be aware of what the instrument’s capabilities are and if they meet your needs. It is so important for you to learn as much as possible about light and sound systems.
