HOW TO CHOOSE A LIGHT & SOUND OR SOUND-ONLY INSTRUMENT

What Type Of System Do You Need?

Now that you understand what a light and sound mind machine is, you must ask yourself what you need it for. The following light and sound mind machines are what I believe to be the best in their class. I have kept the descriptions brief. For detailed information Mindmachines.com’s blog is devoted to providing the latest in product research, development and availability in the neurotechnology industry.

If you are looking for built-in programs that target all four brainwave states, sells for under $200 and is audiostrobe capable, the Proteus mind machine by MindPlace is recommended. The Proteus is a perfect example of having quality features contained in a cost effective system. The sessions are plentiful, containing several sessions each in the beta, alpha, theta and delta brainwave frequency ranges. Binaural beats are included, as is a very comfortable Ruby/Emerald LED ganzframe. Similar to most other systems in the $200 range, the Proteus case is made of hard plastic, is durable, has very few moving parts and should last for years (just be careful where you set the ganzframes). Most light and sound mind machines found in this price range are simple to operate and are perfect for any of us looking mainly for learning relaxation.

There have been occasions when I’ve taken my Proteus along on camping trips. Not that it is needed in the great outdoors. Sometimes it is nice to combine being outside with a light and sound experience. I prefer late at night, finding light and sound sessions (with Delta being the exception) to heighten my sight and hearing senses. Fun listening to the nighttime array of sounds and catching that nanosecond when a meteor explodes before my field of vision. Anyway, my Proteus accidentally dropped into the river a few years back. It was soaked. I opened it up and set it on a flat rock. After drying out for a day and a half, it worked just like new. That event helped me to realize how well built my Proteus was, and hopeful other inexpensive light and sound machines are built as well.

The Procyon light and sound machine by Mindplace is similar to the Proteus, but contains more features including multicolor ganzframes. The Procyon mind machine is a gem of a system especially considering the manufacturers suggested retail price is well below $300. So too is the DAVID Delight by Mind Alive. What intrigued me most about the Delight system was the Mood Brightener sessions. I found they help lower the amount of pain experienced with physical injury. About the same time I was beta-testing the Delight for Dave Siever at Mind Alive I tore a muscle in my leg. Using session two in Mood Brightener alleviated the pain and discomfort I was experiencing to the extent that prescribed pain pills were unnecessary. That surprised the heck out of me.
