Why Achieve Alpha?  Continued

Gordon Smith is a longtime friend who for years has lived about twenty miles outside Las Vegas. Gordon is a business owner who has seen this city grow from a small gambling town in the ’50s to a major urban area. Anyone who has been to Las Vegas has personally experienced the bumper-to-bumper traffic and traffic signals that take forever to change. But Gordon takes it all in stride. He has his CD player running the 515’s alpha session during his commute. He never plays it loud and he never listens to any other session while driving. Why? No need. Alpha puts him in the right frame of mind to tolerate “road warriors” and prepare for the work that awaits him. And during Gordon’s commute home, the 515 assists in helping him wind down.

I refer to sessions utilizing alpha frequencies as universal brainwave sessions because they are used for such a wide range of applications, and everyone I know that has a light and sound instrument or 515 tells me they listen to alpha sessions the most. We have used alpha frequencies in retail stores, business reception and work areas, and during individual and group therapy and counseling. They are used for learning, for relaxing and for meditation. People use these sessions while at their computers. They are used to enhance “mood” music, for overcoming test anxiety and as an aid in lowering blood pressure (even an assistant coach in the NBA utilized one of my light and sound units to help control his blood pressure). But most importantly, they were designed for general stress reduction and they have proven extremely successful in doing so.

Mind States by Michael Landgraf

For general relaxation do sessions that target frequencies in the 4-12 Hz range (theta and alpha states). What frequency session you choose really depends on how you are feeling just before you begin the session. Think of it this way: the lower the frequencies, the deeper the relaxation experience. If you really need to relax, do a theta (4-7 Hz) session. If you would like to relax, do an alpha (8-12 Hz) session. And if you are not sure, do a session that combines both.

Here are some situations where doing an 8-12 Hz (alpha) session beforehand could help:

-Before taking a test.

-Going to see your dentist or physician.

-Making a presentation.

-Driving.

-Meeting your ex-spouse.

-Relatives are coming over.

-An important appointment.

-Any time you need increased focus or concentration.

-Making a commitment.

-Housework or cooking dinner.

Here are some situations where doing an 8-12 Hz (alpha) session afterwards could help:

-Coming home from work.

-Experienced an earthquake.

-Exercising or working out.

-Studying or learning new information.

-Supervising children.

-Experiencing muscle tension.

-You just saw an accident.

-Weighed yourself.

-Balanced your checkbook.

-Had too much caffeine.
