Why Achieve Alpha? Continued
For at least ten years I listened as the manufacturers of light and sound questioned why their instruments were having such a hard time being accepted by the medical community in general. But how could medical professionals apply this technology if they could not control which sessions their client chooses?
This issue was finally addressed with the advent of MP3 program downloads for sound-only stimulation and now, light and sound manufacturers are producing smartphone apps having both light and sound stimulation capabilities. Feedback from the medical professionals I do business with suggest that these light and sound and sound-only delivery systems are a welcome addition to their treatment methods.
So in the past, yes, we have worked on faith alone. And yes, oftentimes the clients did listen to sessions that were not recommended. Being individuals who are naturally curious, I could not fault them, only redirect them into focusing on why they are doing light and sound sessions in the first place.
The residents of Our House, AIDS Project/Los Angeles’ in-house treatment facility, are good examples. All residents suffer from at least one addiction, plus they are HIV+ or have AIDS. Light and sound instruments were always available to them, anytime they felt the need. And these guys tried all the sessions at one time or another. They were very curious about what kind of sensations they would have with the different sessions, and were open to discussing what they experienced. The consensus during these discussions was that the alpha and theta sessions gave them the most relief and were the most satisfying.
When describing the experience of light and sound instrumentation, Gerramy Quarto, former Treatment Coordinator for Our House said it best: “Residents of the program here at Our House have described achieving a state of relaxation that they have not experienced for quite a long time. As you realize, with our six month residential HIV/Chemical Dependency Program, over-coming stress and learning to relax is the primary step towards positive personal development. I believe these units to be a tremendous help to the residents.”
